Our History
When asked to describe how Trinity Christian Church came to be, my mind goes back to 1995. I remember how I began to minister at the Kellerton Christian Church in addition to my duties at the Leon Christian Church where I had ministered since 1985. In 1996 a group of fine Christian folk from Lamoni began attending the Leon church. Then, in 1997, another great group of Christians began attending the Kellerton Christian Church from the surrounding area. Later that year, the idea of a Christian Church in a central location between these communities was discussed. The idea grew, land was purchased and ground was broken for Trinity Christian Church in November of 1998. Construction began in earnest in the spring of 1999. There was such an excitement over what God was doing to establish this church that many attended Bible Studies “inside” the building when it was nothing more than foundation and rafters! The first Sunday of March 2000 was when services first began at Trinity.
Trinity has served the Lord’s purpose beyond anyone’s expectations. God has blessed and the church has grown in spirit, love and number over the last 20 years. Hundreds have walked the aisle in first time decisions, baptisms, recommitments and becoming a part of the church. Families have celebrated the weddings of their children and grandchildren at Trinity and families have grieved the loss of precious loved ones there as well. Shortly after being in the new building, Trinity Hills Cemetery was established and provides a place of peaceful rest for loved ones until Christ returns.
Great fellowship is something that has always been enjoyed as well as great food. Sunday school classes for all age groups flourish. Vacation Bible School is one of the largest and well attended in the area. The age group at Trinity is diverse and there is always a desire to be all inclusive for those that are a part of the church. Small group Bible studies, youth group and AWANA’s are other ways of connecting with God and each other through the ministry of Trinity. We are not a perfect church. I don’t know of one that is. However, we look to God for direction and strive to do His will. The writer of Hebrews sums up nicely what direction we desire to go as a church: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sins that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2.
We pray that God always finds us faithful in doing His work and His will. If we can ever be of assistance to you, please let us know.
Until He returns –
Terry Roberts, Minister
